Cyberpunk 2 Release Date Gets Exciting Update

An exciting update regarding Cyberpunk 2‘s release date and development has emerged. At a recent earnings call, where CD Projekt discussed its financial results for Q3 2025, the game developer revealed their plans for the game’s development team. Notably, Cyberpunk 2 was announced in 2022 under the codename “Project Orion.”

CD Projekt recently revealed their plans to grow Cyberpunk 2’s development team to 300 members by 2027. Currently, there are 135 developers working on the game across Boston, Vancouver, and Warsaw. Accordingly, since the team is expanding by 2027, a 2028 release date for Cyberpunk 2 can be expected at the earliest. However, the game could realistically come out by 2029 or 2030.

At the Q3 2025 earnings call, CD Projekt’s joint CEO, Michał Nowakowski, revealed that their Boston team, established two years ago, currently boasts 80 members, with over 90% of members in Senior-level positions.

He said that CD Projekt has accomplished its goal of building a strong leadership team and is now focusing on “hiring more mid-entry-level roles” for pre-production work. “We plan to expand the Boston-based Cyberpunk team as the project progresses, and double it in the next two years,” he further stated.

Moreover, Nowakowski revealed that CD Projekt plan to “shift the split” between the Boston, Vancouver and Warsaw teams to 50% in the coming years, while the Canadian and Polish teams continue to grow.

Nowalski credited the Boston team’s establishment with helping their simultaneous development of two triple-A titles. “Despite introducing some geographical and
operational complexity, it brought in a wealth of multi-layered experience, skills, and backgrounds,” he added. “We strongly believe that this investment will pay off in the future, bringing the next Cyberpunk experience to a new level.”

Plot details about Cyberpunk 2 are unknown as of writing. However, Mike Pondsmith, creator of the tabletop RPG Cyberpunk, on which Cyberpunk 2077 is based, revealed in a TVGRY interview that the game will introduce a second city. He said that this second city would “feel like Chicago gone wrong.”

In addition, a report from Video Games Chronicle earlier this year revealed that CD Projekt Red wanted to include “the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date” in the game. Furthermore, a job posting for the game’s lead network engineer reportedly revealed that the game planned to introduce multiplayer features (via IGN).
