With a cash crunch claiming casualties in movie theatres with alarming stealth, it’s time for this year’s biggest film Dangal to find means of minimizing the after-shocks of demonetization.
Dangal which opens on December 23 is expected to have one of the most massive openings in recent times.
To beat the demon of demonetization the film’s producer and lead actor Aamir Khan is attempting to secure a simultaneous entertainment-tax exemption in all the Indian states.
A source in the know informs, “Aamir has applied for anticipatory tax exemption in all the major Indian states. If he succeeds in getting Dangal exempted from tax from the day of release, the ticket buyer would be offered a substantial monetary relief.”
Sources say the process of pan-India tax exemption for Dangal is in an “advanced stage” and should be finalized early during the week.
But until then the advance booking for Dangal tickets has been stalled.
Says the source, “Normally the advance booking for Aamir Khan’s films starts 5-6 days before release. This time for Dangal the advance booking has been stalled until the film gets a ‘tax free’ shout from all the Indian states.”
A source close to Dangal says most of the states are all for a tax exemption. “Educating and empowering the rural girl child….what more could the nation’s politicians and conscience keepers ask for?”
