David Harbour’s Ex Recalls the ‘Tail End’ of Their Romance as Lily Allen Steps In With Support: ‘Something Was Wrong’

David Harbour’s ex-girlfriend Alison Sudol is revisiting the moment she realized their relationship was slipping away — a period she now describes as “confused, adrift and mentally unravelled.” And Lily Allen, as her new album West End Girl makes clear, has been there too. In a new Instagram post, Sudol shared a photo she took in early June 2019, writing that she “suspected I wasn’t ok” during the final stretch of their romance. “It was the tail end of a relationship but I didn’t know it yet,” she said. “Something was wrong.”

Sudol, who dated Harbour from 2017 to 2019, said she was living in New York at the time in a “fancy apartment with big windows” that she had decorated carefully — but it “didn’t feel like home.” She added, “I was a kind of sad that drifted in and out of focus… tangled up in a narrative that wasn’t mine but was so loud I couldn’t hear beyond it.” The actress said she kept trying to “change me” during those months, unable to get her thoughts straight as the relationship faltered.

Sudol’s new post drew immediate support — including from Allen herself, who left a heart emoji in the comments. The quiet gesture landed at a moment when both women were articulating different parts of their histories with the actor, one through music and one through memory.

Her post arrives just weeks after Allen released West End Girl, the unflinching album dissecting her four-year marriage to Harbour — a project Sudol herself praised when it first dropped. The album’s release also reignited several resurfaced moments from Harbour’s past, including the note he sent Allen ahead of her West End debut, which fans widely recirculated in October. Allen’s album also details their December 2024 split, documenting a boundary-crossing open marriage and the “salacious sh-tshow,” as Harbour himself put it, that surrounded their separation.

In the caption, Sudol notes that the past six years have been about rebuilding. Now a mother of two with partner Tom Cullen, she said she’s been “very careful” about who she allows into her life. “I’m not the person I was,” she said. “Lying down keeps me up at night — every parent knows that anything that messes with your precious sleep is not worth it.”

Sudol’s post adds another firsthand account to a conversation already shaped by West End Girl. With both women sharing their timelines within weeks of each other, their overlapping recollections are resurfacing details that had faded from view — and getting people to look a little closer at the Stranger Things’ actor’s personal history.
