Dayoung (WJSN) Turns the Tide with “Body”

After years in a group known for modest success but lacking breakout hits, Dayoung —the youngest member of WJSN—has stormed into solo territory with Body, a seductive, confident track that’s not just viral—it’s dominating the charts.

Initially charting at a lowly #663 on Melon, Body surged by over 270 spots in a single day, now sitting proudly in the Melon Top 100 and clinching #1 on Bugs. It currently ranks #21 on iChart and shows no signs of slowing down.

Body didn’t need flashy marketing—its virality is purely organic, fueled by TikTok dance challenges, reaction clips, and fan-driven hype,” music critics note. Hashtags like #DayoungDeservesIt and #BodyChallenge are exploding across platforms, marking her as a breakout star of late 2025.

Her success is even more poignant given WJSN’s recent dormancy. With major members like Cheng Xiao, Meiqi, and Xuanyi returning to China, and even Bona unable to carry the group’s momentum alone, Dayoung’s solo emergence is a fresh breath—and a shock to longtime fans.

On September 23, Dayoung claimed her first solo music show win on The Show. The teary moment where WJSN members like Bona, Exy, and Yeonjung joined her onstage was a bittersweet reunion, symbolizing both individual triumph and collective memory.

Body itself is a dance-pop track infused with disco-funk elements and bold self-love lyrics. Its message? Empowerment and embracing one’s body, performed with sizzling choreography that balances power and sensuality. “It’s Dayoung’s personal growth arc—told through music,” one fan remarked.

Her transformation stunned fans. Gone is the soft, sugary image from WJSN and sub-unit CHOCOME. In its place? A leaner, bronzed, sharply-styled performer who shed 12kg and flaunts a toned physique, redefining her public identity.

International fans are equally captivated, calling Body a potential revival of the sexy “cunty-pop” genre that’s faded in the Gen 4 era dominated by dreamy and Y2K aesthetics from groups like NewJeans and ILLIT. Critics are already speculating Dayoung’s nomination for “Best Solo Artist” at the upcoming MAMA 2025—a rare feat for a Gen 3 idol making a late solo debut.
