Josh Taylor, who has portrayed Roman Brady on Days of Our Lives since 1997, shared his perspective on whether Marlena or Kate is Roman’s true love in a recent interview.
Speaking with the Woman’s World, Taylor acknowledged that the show had established Marlena as Roman’s great love. However, he admitted he wasn’t part of that storyline shift. “The show set it up that Marlena was the love of Roman’s life, but I wasn’t involved in the flip around,” he explained.
Taylor added that the bond between Marlena and Roman has evolved into a deep, enduring friendship, which he relates to from his personal life. “I’m just glad that Marlena and Roman have developed an incredible friendship over these years—one that’s actually how I am with my ex-wife in real life, so I feel that.”
At the same time, Taylor emphasized Kate’s lasting presence in Roman’s life, pointing out the highs and lows they’ve shared. “Kate was always there,” he said. “We’ve come back and forth at different times, for good or bad! So I would say they’re tied for first. Kate definitely belongs up there, as well.”
Roman shares children with both Marlena and Kate. When reflecting on his scenes with Lauren Koslow’s Kate, Taylor recalled a recent shoot, “A couple days ago, I shot a scene with Lauren Koslow, and I walked outside after like, ‘Damn, that was fun!’” He described it as a well-written, emotionally intense moment between the characters during a time of marital conflict.
Despite fan interest in a definitive answer, Taylor ultimately left the choice open, acknowledging the importance of both women in Roman’s journey. “They’re tied for first,” he stated.
