Deadpool's New Powers Challenge Ryan Reynolds to Break the MCU

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Marvel’s Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time!

Marvel just gave Deadpool an over-the-top upgrade that almost serves as an open invitation to actor/filmmaker Ryan Reynolds to raise hell in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Wade Wilson’s latest romp through the Marvel Multiverse practically dares Reynolds to suit up once more to wreak havoc in the MCU, with Deadpool wielding Captain America’s shield and the Fantastic Four’s powers.

Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time #4 finds the erstwhile Merc With a Mouth having gained possession of a version of Cap’s signature shield, along with the powers of the Human Torch, the Thing, and the rest of the Fantastic Four.

Immediately, Marvel fans have cited this as the perfect next step for Deadpool in the MCU.

With the door wide open for Multiversal shenanigans in the upcoming Avengers films, this version of Deadpool could easily be adapted for the MCU, and absolutely should be, even if only briefly. While there would certainly be variables in details between page and screen, the core concept of a hyperpowerful Deadpool is what fans want to see on screen.

In addition to the Fantastic Four’s abilities, and the star-spangled shield, this timeline-hopping version of Wade Wilson has also accrued magical abilities, and in the preview for Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time #4, Doctor Doom injects him with “SuperSkrull mutagen,” which will presumably grant him shapeshifting and power-mimicking abilities.

Marvel Is Gifting Deadpool the Fantastic Four’s Powers Ahead of the Team’s MCU Debut

Deadpool is killing his way through the Marvel Universe, and this time, it looks like Wade will come into possession of the Fantastic Four’s powers.

In other words, an overpowered Deadpool in the MCU wouldn’t necessarily have to be given the exact same powers as this Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time version. The filmmakers would have a wide range of flexibility to depict the character as an unstoppable juggernaut…perhaps even by having him co-opt the powers of the unstoppable Juggernaut.

All of that is to say, the idea seems tailor-made for giving Ryan Reynolds to truly go all out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Moreover, it would be a fitting plot point for bringing the character more directly into the Avengers-centered “mainstream” of the MCU, after appearing in largely standalone films.

“Superpower Collector” Deadpool Would Be A Perfect Fit For The MCU’s Next Phase

Is Ryan Reynolds In The New Avengers Movies?

Deadpool and Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds’ third Deadpool film, tied the franchise directly into the MCU with its Multiversal plot. Consequently, it would be a natural extension of the character’s story arc to have him pop up in the upcoming Avengers films, which also are expected to use the Multiverse as a pivotal plot point.

Further, Avengers: Secret Wars is believed to be, at least in part, an adaptation of the Marvel crossover of the same name, which featured the Multiverse being condensed into a single amalgamated “Battleworld” universe. This provides an obvious mechanism through which Deadpool could be brought into the picture, but then the question becomes how he might factor into the film overall.

It wouldn’t be out of the question for Deadpool to join the Avengers during Secret Wars. So far, there have been teases, but no official confirmation of Ryan Reynolds’ participation in the movie. While fans can reasonably expect him to pop up, it is much more open to speculation whether this will be a substantial role, or a cameo.

Yes, It’s True – Deadpool’s New Powers Make Him a One-Man Avengers Roster

Deadpool has killed the Marvel Universe before in the comic space, with his latest superpower turning him into an overpowered one-man Avengers team!

If it is the latter, the superpower-collecting Deadpool from Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time would actually be perfect. He could show up as comedic relief, or even an antagonist, giving fans a taste of the most powerful version of Deadpool ever. He could be more spectacle than substance, which is apropos for the character.

Even A Cameo From “Superpower Collector” Deadpool Would Fulfill Fans’ Wishes For The Character

The “superpower collector” Deadpool is a truly gonzo version of the character, which is saying something, given the hero’s penchant for hyperbolic action and over-the-top storylines. And as such, it is one that Marvel true believers are already clamoring to watch Ryan Reynolds play on screen, if even for just a few precious minutes.

This take on the character might be too much of a good thing if he stuck around too long, but it could be perfect for a brief, critical role in the upcoming Avengers films. Alternatively, of course, there is the possibility a future Deadpool film could adapt the Kills the Marvel Universe storylines, but that is speculation for another day.

Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time #4 will be available July 2, 2025 from Marvel Comics.
