Who dies in Demon Slayer’s Infinity Castle movie’s ending?
The movie features three major battles: Zenitsu vs. Kaigaku, Tanjiro and Giyu vs. Akaza, and Shinobu vs. Doma. These battles resulted in two Upper Ranks and one Hashira’s death.
The first battle was between Zenitsu and Kaigaku. Kaigaku was a former Demon Slayer and the latest Upper Rank Six, replacing Daki. He was also a senior to Zenitsu while they were still training under master Jigoro Kuwajima, which made this battle very personal to him. The two clashed, showcasing how far they’ve come. But with a newly created Seventh Form: Honoikazuchi no Kami, Zenitsu came out on top, decapitating Kaigaku.
The second battle pitted Tanjiro and Giyu, Water Hashira, against Akaza, Upper Rank Three. The two demon slayers struggled to kill him as he could regenerate infinitely. Even after the two managed to behead him, Akaza fought back. But after being overwhelmed by memories of his past life as a human and the people he loved, Akaza ended his own life.
The final battle was between Shinobu, Insect Hashira, and Domo, Upper Rank Two. Her fight was also very personal as Domo was the one who killed her sister, Kanae, the former Flower Hashira. Shinobu had always been the weakest Hashira in terms of physical strength. But she became a Hashira nonetheless for her intelligence and mastery of various poisons.
Knowing her limits, Shinobu went into the battle knowing she couldn’t defeat an Upper Rank using strength. So, over the years, she had been filling her body with strong doses of wisteria poison. By the end, she allowed Doma to absorb her and poisoned him from the inside.
Although it meant a Hashira’s death, it was not in vain. Just before she was absorbed, she signalled Kanao about the poison. The stage is set for Kanano and Domo to fight in the next movie.
