Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Resurrection season 1, episode 2.One of the most important characters from Dexter: New Blood is almost entirely missing from Dexter: Resurrection, and it doesn’t make any sense. Dexter: Resurrection picks up almost immediately after the ending of Dexter: New Blood. Dexter (Michael C. Hall) wakes up from his coma, learns that Harrison (Jack Alcott) has killed someone in New York City, and quickly makes his way to the Big Apple.
While Resurrection does move quickly, it did dedicate some time to explaining what happened in the aftermath of New Blood. Dexter learns that Angela Bishop (Julia Jones) has covered for him, that only Angel Batista (David Zayas) suspects him of being the Bay Harbor Butcher, and that he’s basically gotten off scot-free. Convenient as it was, one big part of Resurrection‘s premiere didn’t make much sense after New Blood.
Angela Going Back On Her Accusations Against Dexter Make No Sense After New Blood
Angela Wouldn’t Just Let Dexter Go Because He Helped Her Get Closure For Iris
Pretty much all of Dexter: Resurrection‘s setup hinged on one interesting decision: Angela essentially forgave Dexter and went back on her accusations of him being the Bay Harbor Butcher. Resurrection tried to explain this by saying that Angela felt she was “even” with Dexter for finding out that Iris, Audrey’s biological mother, was killed by Kurt Caldwell (Clancy Brown), aka the Runaway Killer.
While it does make sense that Angela would leave Iron Lake after everything that happened. She did, after all, unearth two separate serial killers, lose a fellow officer, and take the blame for shooting her boyfriend. However, her decision to forgive Dexter doesn’t make sense. Even though Angela appreciated knowing what happened to Iris, she wouldn’t just forgive and forget that Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher.
Angela was deeply hurt and betrayed when she learned that Dexter was a serial killer. Of course, she appreciated knowing what happened to Iris and seeing the man responsible punished, but she was also a good cop. It just doesn’t make sense that Angela would backtrack on all the accusations she made to Batista and cover up for Dexter killing Logan (Alano Miller).

Dexter Morgan’s New TV Show Risks Breaking The Franchise’s Biggest Rule After 19 Years
The upcoming Dexter spinoff sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection, already risks the serial killer protagonist breaking the franchise’s number one rule.
The simple fact of the matter is that Resurrection moved on too easily after the ending of New Blood. Knowing about Iris just isn’t a good enough explanation. Instead of wrapping up New Blood‘s lingering questions, however, Resurrection decided to cut down on the fat and get right into its own story and introduce the new characters in the cast of Dexter: Resurrection.
Resurrection’s Explanation For Angela’s Absence Rules Out A Cameo Return
Resurrection Seemingly Doesn’t Want To Deal With Angela Or New Blood’s Plot Very Much
Unfortunately, in brushing Angela Bishop under the rug, Dexter: Resurrection has all but guaranteed she won’t make a cameo later this season. The whole point of simplifying Angela’s story was so that Resurrection wouldn’t have to waste time and energy dealing with New Blood‘s fallout. Resurrection has its own story to tell, and it didn’t want to be bogged down with another show’s loose ends.
The only way Resurrection can continue with its own story is by ignoring Angela and all the questions about New Blood’s ending that she brings up.
Angela, however, is one of those loose ends. Angela can’t make a cameo in Resurrection because if she does, the sequel series is going to have to investigate why she isn’t after Dexter anymore, and her reasoning doesn’t make sense. The only way Resurrection can continue with its own story is by ignoring Angela and all the questions about New Blood‘s ending that she brings up.
To be clear: I don’t think the way Resurrection has handled Angela is entirely bad. The ending of New Blood wasn’t good or popular, and I think Resurrection was smart to spend as little time analyzing it as possible. I’m also a big fan of how Resurrection feels more like classic Dexter, which wouldn’t have been possible if it had to spend time doing an autopsy on New Blood.

That being said, I do wish Angela’s story would have been handled with a bit more care. I think she got a bad rep in New Blood, and she should have at least been with Batista when he confronted Dexter at the clinic. Regardless, it doesn’t seem like Angela will be important to Dexter: Resurrection going forward.
