Dhadak Takes On Dwayne Johnson

It’s  Karan  Johar versus Dwayne  Jonhson at  the  turnstiles this week. And considering how last week’s release Soorma was trounced  at the  boxoffice by the big Hollywood franchise film Ant Man & The Wasp, it looks like this week again  it’s battle for supremacy between the East & The West .

Sources close to Dharma  Productions  reveal that Dhadak their premium product which introduces Sridevi’s daughter  opposite the talentedI shaan Khattar, did not get the requisite  number of theatres and  audis.

“The Dwayne Johnson film(Skyscraper) is being released  in four languages Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and English while we are coming in  only one language. That’s the  first disadvantage for Dhadak. The second disadvantage is  Dwayne Johnson. He  has a huge fan following in India .When he  speaks in Hindi he is  no longer a  firangi . He is  a global action hero and that  with one amputated leg.A Salman Khan from Hollywood with a physical  disability that  in no way hampers his heroism,” says a personnel from a leading multiplex.

For  Hindi  films on release, it has  become impossible  to  avert competition  with the Hollywood biggies since there us one almost every other week.

Suman Sinha a leading exhibitor  of Patna feels the competition would only grow in the coming weeks. “Dhadak has  to compete withSkyscraper. Next week the Hindi  releases have to take  on Tom Cruise  and Mission Impossible. And since Dwayne Johnson and  Tom Cruise are much bigger stars than the actors who  feature  in these Hindi films there  is  bound  to be some level of unfair comparison for the Hindi films coming  up for release  in the next few weeks.”
