After the raucus over Sunny Leone’s ostensible phone number In Arjun Patiala , there are talks at the highest level to ban the use of verifiable phone numbers in films.
When Diljit Dosanjh decided to do a number with Sunny Leone for the film Arjun Patiala little did he expect the ‘number’ would backfire on his face, In one of the film’s awkward sequences Sunny Leone makes a guest appearance and sexily offers helpful cop Diljit her number.
It now turns out that the number actually belongs to a man in Delhi named Puneet Aggarwal who claims he has been receiving calls and messages from strange men asking for unmentionable favours from ‘Sunny Leone’.Aggarwal is threatening legal action against the film’s makers.
But the film’s team seems unfazed,
One source from the team said, “This is just free publicity for a man who until yesterday was unknown to the world. We are also getting written about post-weekend because of this incident. So the advantage/disadvantage is mutual.”
The larger issue is the use of cellphone numbers in films. How do filmmakers avoid giving out random numbers in their films that somewhere have a real-life equivalents?
A source from the censor board which doesn’t wish to be named says concealing onscreen numbers from being used by the public has a very simple safety rule. “You beep out the last digit if the number is vocalized on screen, or you blur the number if shown on screen. It’s that simple. We wonder why Arjun Patiala did not follow this procedure.”
