There’s been speculation that Student Of The Year 2, starring Tiger Shroff, Disha Patani and Tara Sutaria, directed by Punit Malhotra and produced by Karan Johar is on hold because of lack of a good script.
But our source tells us that the film is very much on – with a slight change of cast. While Tiger and Tara are still very much part of it, Disha Patani is no longer in it anymore.
Says a souce, “Disha was dropped by Karan and Punit from SOTY2 after she signed Baaghi 2. The SOTY2 team was surprised at Disha’s choice, when she signed Baaghi 2. They felt that as the film would have a later release than Baaghi 2, the freshness of Tiger and Disha and their on-screen chemistry (they are said to be dating off-screen), would lose the spark. Hence they decided to drop her from the casting. So Disha lost one Tiger film for another and that too, a banner as big as Dharma.”
However the source insists that one can’t blame Disha for her choice as she’s starting a career and needs to sign good films. “To be fair, Disha did wait for SOTY2 for a long time and had given her dates for it even though other producers kept approaching her, but she couldn’t wait indefinitely. Baaghi 2, which will roll within the next couple of months, is being produced by another big producer, Sajid Nadiadwala, who is known to present his films grandly, and for Disha there was the added bonus of working with Tiger again. SOTY2 is a film with two heroines while Baaghi 2 is an action entertainer and will only have Disha opposite him so it made sense for her to give her dates there.”
The source adds that Punit has already started looking for new actresses to replace Disha from the last week. “SOTY2 is happening for sure. The film was to roll in May, but the script was being reworked. Now it’s supposed to roll in winter this year.”
Karan Johar and Punit Malhotra remained unavailable for comment.
