Nowadays, it feels as if there’s a new RPG releasing every week. From truly exceptional titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to the hidden gems and amazing indies, there’s plenty to get stuck into. These games can take hundreds of hours as well, so it’s easy to see how some players skip over certain titles if they get even a little bad press. Unfortunately, some of these games are actually much better than people claim.
One such game has actually ended up becoming one of the most controversial RPGs ever made, despite the fact that it is a surprisingly great experience. That largely comes down to one central problem that plagued it at launch. Fortunately, now that the dust has settled, a lot of people are coming around to this particular title, and its place on a streaming service makes it more accessible than ever before.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Gets Too Much Criticism
It Is Better Than People Make It Out To Be
Dragon Age: The Veilguard got a lot of criticism online from both diehard fans of the series and those new to it. Part of that was to do with its obvious live service roots that could be seen in certain gameplay elements. However, a large reason for the controversy was the stark differences between The Veilguard and its predecessors, which were far more rooted in RPG traditions and tropes.
Of course, going in with expectations that it would be like the other entries makes perfect sense, but it evidently proved disastrous for fans. However, now that everyone knows what to expect, Dragon Age: The Veilguard can be appreciated for what it is, rather than what many believed it should be. Indeed, all the phenomenal new features that the extremely positive The Veilguard reviews praised it for can be acknowledged, and that is exciting to me.
You Should Play Dragon Age: The Veilguard
It Is Well Worth A Try At Least
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a thoroughly enjoyable action RPG with a heavy focus on action. It is lacking in the weighty narrative choices that its predecessors are so highly praised for, although it still contains a few truly heartbreaking ones up its sleeves. Visually, it’s astounding, and while some question its character designs, I found the entire experience to be a refreshing take on tired fantasy tropes.
With a phenomenal cast of characters, memorable set pieces, and ties to previous Dragon Age games for hardcore fans to enjoy, there is a lot in The Veilguard to sink your teeth into. To make things even better, The Veilguard is on Game Pass, making now the best time to give it a go. Whether you heard the criticisms at launch or were just too busy, I strongly encourage everyone to at least try Dragon Age: The Veilguard as it is an exceptional RPG.
