HGTV star Drew Scott is now a member of the board of directors for the non-profit, A Sense of Home. According to the organization’s website, the non-profit “prevents homelessness before it starts by creating first-ever homes and a community for youth aging out of foster care.”

On April 24, Drew Scott let his Instagram followers know he was “volunteering with [A Sense of Home] for the past two years,” before he “recently joined their board of directors.”

“This amazing nonprofit does incredible work creating homes for young people exiting foster care, and they recently launched a new emergency relief program that provides fully functioning home environments for those who lost everything in the Los Angeles fires,” continued Drew Scott in the Instagram post’s caption.

Jonathan Scott gave some advice for those rebuilding their homes following the Los Angeles fires while speaking to KTLA 5 in April 2025. For instance, he recommended to “not build back with vented attics or vented crawl spaces.”

“That’s how embers get into your home, and starts the fire from the inside,” said Jonathan Scott during the interview.

The HGTV personality also recommended ensuring “all materials in the exterior of your home are Class A non-combustible” when rebuilding.

Jonathan Scott’s Fiance, Zooey Deschanel, Lost Her Childhood Home Because of the Fires

During the March 2025 KCAL interview, Jonathan Scott noted that his fiance, Zooey Deschanel‘s parents, Mary Jo and Caleb Deschanel, lost their home, where she grew up, because of the Palisades Fire.

“It’s been a very emotional journey. And my memories there — they only go back five and a half years. They have had that home for over 40 years,” said Jonathan Scott during the KCAL interview.

He also noted that many other families in the Los Angeles area are in similar situations.

“It’s hard — so many families going through a situation like that. Where they just lost everything. There was no time to grab anything,” said Jonathan Scott.
