In an unprecedented display of Hollywood’s franchise power Universal Picture, the producers and distributors of Fast & Furious 8 have decided to release their prestige premium product in 4 languages in India and in approximately 3,000 theatres across the country, thereby creating a panic situation for the week’s major Hindi release Begum Jaan.
The producers Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt are left fighting a valiant but ineffectual battle to wangle theatres and screens from the ‘Furious’ Hollywood franchise.
Says a source from a major multiplex chain, “We are releasing Fast & Furious in many more shows than BegumJaan. Also Fast & Furious opens in India on Thursday April 13 a day ahead of its release in other parts of the world, and a day ahead of Begum Jaan. Not only that , there will be paid preview screenings of Fast & Furious 8open to the public fromWednesday.”
On top of this avalanche of hardsell , one hears that Universal Pictures is making every effort possible to get Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to India for the Fast & Furious 8 release.
Says a source, “The film’s two major stars are Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel. Vin Diesel was in India in January for the release of XXX. Now Dwayne Johnson may make an appearance in India for his fans here.”
This fury of the Fast and the Furious has created a panic situation for the producers of Begum Jaan.
