Looks like all the religious and cultural organizations who had sent letters to the censor board objecting to the content in Flying Jatt have been sidestepped .
Barring one point of contention regarding a Sikh organization’s objection, the complete content of Remo d’Souza’sThe Flying Jatt has been cleared by the censor board with no cuts.
According to a source from the censor board, “The content in The Flying Jatt was found to be fun and inoffensive. However there were scenes of some violence. So we granted a ‘UA’ certificate but no cuts. There was a scene for which the producers needed clearance from the Gurdwara committee.”
Speaking exclusively on the matter CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani said, “We’ve cleared the film with no cuts. Regarding the clearance that one scene required from certain organizations, the producers have told us they’ve got the clearance. That is a matter between the producers and the organization which raised objections to certain things. As the CBFC we saw nothing objectionable in the film.”
Clearly religious and cultural protests against the content in a film falls outside the jurisdiction of the censor board, unless censorial guidelines are seen to be broken.
