Fortnite Might Soon Let You Play as Your Favorite Harry Potter Characters

Fortnites Chapter 7 is shaping up to bring some serious magical energy. According to credible leaker Poket328, a Harry Potter collaboration is planned for Fortnite’s next chapter that is expected to launch in early December.

The announcement came via the FortniteLeaks Discord server on November 2, and it didn’t take long for the community to explode with reactions ranging from pure excitement to genuine frustration.

The timing makes sense. Harry Potter is experiencing a cultural moment with HBO Max’s upcoming TV series, which is actively filming as of July 2025. Fortnite itself just pulled off yet another massive crossover win with Chapter 6’s Mini Season 2 on November 1, featuring none other than The Simpsons. A magical follow-up seems like a natural move for Epic Games—at least, on the surface.

Fortnite’s Timing for a Potential Harry Potter Collab Isn’t Random

The Harry Potter franchise is genuinely thriving right now. With HBO’s new TV adaptation currently in production, iconic characters being reimagined for a fresh generation, and the Wizarding World maintaining its cultural grip through merchandise, theme parks, and nostalgia, announcing a partnership feels strategically sound.

Furthermore, The Simpsons mini-season has already proven that animation-style collaborations resonate hard with players, and a magical world filled with wands, spells, and iconic locations could translate beautifully into Fortnite gameplay.

Epic Games knows the formula works. Limited-time collaborations create urgency, drive cosmetic sales, and keep the community talking. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a POI would be incredible. Wand-based weapons with unique mechanics? Players would lose their minds.

House-themed cosmetics, Patronus effects, even Quidditch-related emotes sound like a designer’s fever dream come true. The gameplay potential alone justifies why this partnership exists. But gameplay potential doesn’t exist in a vacuum, and this particular franchise brings baggage that can’t be ignored.

Not Everyone’s Cheering for a Fortnite x Harry Potter Crossover

This latest Fortnite leak’s fallout hasn’t been purely celebratory. Within hours, a substantial portion of the community surfaced legitimate concerns about one person: J. K. Rowling.

The author’s well-documented history with transphobic remarks, combined with her continued involvement and financial benefit from all Harry Potter projects, sparked exactly the kind of debate you’d expect in 2025.

Poket328, the leaker, didn’t shy away from addressing the issue either. In the same message confirming the crossover, they called out Rowling’s harmful statements and expressed their personal disappointment in Epic’s decision. They even referenced raising funds for The Trevor Project, emphasizing that this leak wasn’t just gossip; it came from a place of advocacy.

The response has split cleanly. One camp is dismissing the controversy entirely, arguing for separating art from the artist and simply choosing not to purchase cosmetics if uncomfortable:

Another camp is questioning why Fortnite, a game with a young, diverse player base that openly celebrated Pride Month and emphasized inclusion, would partner with someone actively working against trans rights.

A middle ground has since emerged too: players loving Harry Potter but genuinely conflicted about supporting someone whose public statements contradict their values.

This isn’t hypothetical frustration either. The community still remembers Hogwarts Legacys 2023 launch when similar conversations erupted. Despite boycott calls, the game sold 22+ million copies:

Now, whether Epic Games proceeds, quietly cancels, or issues some carefully worded statement about supporting trans rights organizations while still cashing licensing checks remains unclear. What is clear is that Fortnite players are paying attention to where their money goes.

Do you think players should boycott the Harry Potter collaboration, or is voting with your wallet enough of a statement? Let us know in the comments below!
