A fixture of the X-Men, Gambit has also starred in plenty of solo adventures, with one in particular inspiring a shockingly different design the game must include as a cosmetic.
Gambit Needs His New Sun Design in Marvel Rivals
An iconic part of X-Men lore, fans know Gambit for his ability to charge inanimate objects – usually cards – with explosive force. However, this is only the beginning of his powers. Gambit can charge his own body to enhance his strength and speed, and summon enough power to destroy Galactus himself. In Marvel’s mainstream, Gambit prefers not to tap his maximum powers… partly because he’s seen what he might become if he does.
In Fabian Nicieza and Steve Skroce’s Gambit Volume 3, fans met ‘the New Sun.’ Hailing from the alternate Earth-9921, New Sun (aka Remy LeBeau) was trained in his powers since childhood. While he did join the X-Men in this timeline, he left after a battle with the Phoenix – which he won. Unfortunately, when New Sun tampered with magic, he experienced a power surge he couldn’t control, leading to the destruction of all life on the planet. While attempting to undo this act of destruction, New Sun managed to access the multiverse itself…
New Sun eventually journeyed to Earth-616 and became an antagonist of the mainstream Gambit. Their interactions revealed the full extent of Gambit’s powers – he doesn’t just have the ability to charge objects with kinetic energy, he can accomplish total control of all kinetic energy on a molecular level. Gambit managed to reach the same power level in his final battle against New Sun, confirming he possesses the same potential.
New Sun represents Gambit’s full, godlike potential and the massive danger he poses to the planet itself – exactly the kind of intimidating look that Marvel Rivals players deserve. New Sun has a variety of costumes, with a purple caped look and the X-Cutioner armor, which he wore as a disguise. However, the cosmetic we’re suggesting is his glowing blue energy form, which represented the ultimate form of his powers.
Marvel Rivals Has Other Options for Great Gambit Cosmetics
Currently, Gambit players have access to his base costume, some color-swaps and his ‘Thieves Guildmaster’ look, referencing his status within the international Thieves Guild of the comics. However, Remy LeBeau has several other awesome looks.
The recent What If…? Galactus: Galactus Transformed Gambit reimagined him as a replacement for the Silver Surfer, while the ongoing Unbreakable X-Men stars an older Gambit who wears a blindfold. Other great costumes include his transformation into the Horseman of Death and his shirtless Hellfire Gala ensemble.
Marvel Rivals fans have been clamoring for Gambit’s inclusion since the beginning, and now the X-Men’s most charming mutant is available to play. Now, all Gambit needs are a few more cosmetics based on his best comic redesigns to be one of Marvel Rivals‘ coolest characters.
