MEOVV‘s Gawon was famously accepted into New York University before she debuted. As she grew up part of the elite and well-schooled, she was set for success even if she did not make it as a singer.

Acceptance to NYU is low, with only 9.4% making it in 2023. Gawon’s acceptance was a huge feat. She even scored 1560 on the SATs! Many thought that she had sacrificed a spot in an elite school just to become an idol. Gawon clarified this in a recent show on YouTube. She had not sacrificed a spot in the school for her dreams. Rather, she had no plans of going, but simply applied to fulfil her grandfather’s wishes.
I didn’t give it up to become an idol, but I had been a trainee all awhile even before applying. My grandfather thought that it was a must for be to go to college, and I had been keeping my life as a trainee as a secret. He didn’t know. But I thought that I should show him what he had so wanted, that I could get in, before telling him the truth. So I ended up applying.
