General Hospital’s New Charlotte Cassadine on Her ‘Complicated’ Role

Bluesy Burke, who portrays Charlotte Cassadine, shared details about General Hospital’s audition process and landing the role. She also explained how she views her character. In September, Burke made her debut as Charlotte, the daughter of Valentin Cassadine and Lulu Spencer. The role was previously portrayed by Scarlett Fernandez and later by Amelie McLain.

In a conversation with Soap Opera Digest, Burke revealed how she views Charlotte’s character, calling her “pretty complicated.” Explaining her reasons, she said, “On the surface, she can come across as just, like, a sweet, normal teenage girl, but deep down, she has all this turmoil.”

Burke continued, “She has a very strong relationship with her father; she pretty much worships him and she misses him a lot because he’s in prison. She was on the run with him before, so she’s gone from seeing him all the time to not seeing him at all.”

The 17-year-old actress thinks that Charlotte doesn’t open up a lot until she has to. However, she does have her sassy moments, which Burke loves to film. In addition, she also loves it when her character gets “a little bit mean.” Burke revealed that she watched only “a little bit” of herself on the show, but that has proved to be useful for her.

Explaining how watching herself has helped her improve, she added, “Like, I’ve noticed that there are weird tics that I have sometimes, and it’s helped me when I’ve continued to work. I’m starting to work on controlling myself and really just being in the scene. So, I think watching myself has been strange, but it has helped me.”

Burke mentioned that after auditioning for Charlotte, she didn’t hear back for one or two months. Then, when she least expected it, she received a call. This led her to Prospect Studios to meet casting director Mark Teschner and executive producer Frank Valentini. She read for them, and a week later, she secured the gig.

Burke researched the character thoroughly, reading articles about Charlotte’s past and watching the show to understand where her storyline currently stands. She admitted that she was both nervous and excited on her first day on set.
