Hong Kong actress Gigi Lai Chi, 54, made a heartwarming appearance to support her longtime friend Cecilia Cheung, 45, on the set of the reality show One Road of Bloom, filmed in Zhejiang, China.
Cheung recently recreated the iconic character Zhao Min from the wuxia classic Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber, sporting a look reminiscent of Sheh’s beloved portrayal in the 2001 TVB adaptation.
Moved by the tribute, Gigi paid Cheung a surprise visit, later sharing a video of their reunion on her social media with the message:
“Thanks to you, Zhao Min is even more captivating. Always supporting you.”
Cecilia Cheung, visibly touched, shared that she and Gigi have been close for over 20 years. She’s also familiar with Gigi’s family, noting that Gigi often brings her delicious food whenever they meet.
In her younger years, Cheung even admitted candidly:
“I acknowledge that the only woman more beautiful than me is Charmaine Sheh.”
One Road of Bloom, produced by streaming platform Iqiyi, features female celebrities with diverse life experiences. The cast travels together while discussing career, life issues, and personal reflections. This season also stars veteran actresses Liu Xiaoqing and Carina Lau.
Charmaine Sheh left an enduring mark with her portrayal of Zhao Min in the 2001 TVB drama Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber. Her performance was so iconic that Chinese outlet The Paper wrote,
“Since Charmaine Sheh, no one has played Zhao Min better.”
Film critic Xu Chunwei praised her aura, calling her image a “living rose still fresh and vivid decades later.“
Though Gigi retired from acting in 2008 to marry businessman Ma Ting Keung and raise their three daughters, she now runs a beauty clinic chain. The family resides in a luxury home worth 1.1 billion HKD (approximately USD 141.6 million), where she often practices yoga and swims with her children.
Meanwhile, Cecilia Cheung, who hasn’t starred in films recently, remains active in variety shows, events, and fashion endorsements while balancing life as a mother of three.
