‘Godzilla x Kong’ Sequel Officially Titled Supernova, Production Begins With New Teaser

The MonsterVerse is expanding once again! Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have officially announced that the next chapter in the epic saga of titanic clashes will be titled Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. The film, now in production, is scheduled to hit theaters on March 26, 2027.

To mark the start of filming, a thrilling teaser video has been released, offering fans a glimpse into the explosive direction the franchise is heading. This will be the sixth installment in the MonsterVerse, which began with Godzilla in 2014 and most recently delivered Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire—also dated 2014, though that appears to be an error in earlier reports.

Grant Sputore, best known for his work on the sci-fi thriller I Am Mother, is at the helm of Supernova. The screenplay comes from David Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and *Michael Lloyd Green. The cast features an exciting lineup, including Dan Stevens, Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Matthew Modine, Delroy Lindo, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Sam Neill.

🔍 Lesser-Known Facts About the Godzilla Franchise:

  1. Godzilla’s Original Roar Was Made Using a Double Bass
The iconic Godzilla roar was created by rubbing a leather glove coated in pine tar resin along the strings of a double bass. The sound was then slowed down to create the deep, earth-shaking effect.

  2. The First Godzilla Suit Weighed Over 200 Pounds
In the 1954 Godzilla film, the suit worn by actor Haruo Nakajima was so heavy and rigid that it could only be worn for a few minutes at a time. Nakajima lost several pounds during filming due to heat exhaustion.

  3. Godzilla Was Originally Meant to Represent Nuclear Destruction
The original Japanese film (Gojira) was a metaphor for the devastating impact of nuclear weapons, influenced heavily by the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.

  4. There Are Over 30 Godzilla Films Worldwide
While the MonsterVerse is more recent, the broader Godzilla franchise includes more than 30 films from Japan’s Toho Studios alone, making it one of the longest-running movie franchises in history.

  5. King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962) Was a Global Hit
The original face-off between Kong and Godzilla was the first Japanese film to be produced in color and widescreen format and remains one of the highest-grossing Godzilla films in Japan.

With Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, fans can expect more breathtaking visuals, deeper lore, and—of course—massive monster battles. Stay tuned as more details emerge from behind the scenes of this cinematic titan clash.
