Luke Bryan Hilariously Gets Mistaken for Blake Shelton

Country superstars Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton have a lot in common, from their southern roots to their years spent judging TV talent shows; Bryan’s in his eighth season on “American Idol” and Shelton spent 23 seasons on “The Voice.”

But they’ve never been accused of looking alike — until now. In a video Bryan posted to social media on March 17, 2025, he revealed that he’d just been mistaken for Shelton by a fan, hilariously recounting the exchange. He captioned the video, “Identity theft is not a joke @blakeshelton.”

Bryan recorded his video while on a fishing boat, out on the lake with his 14-year-old son, Tate, who was quietly fishing in the background.

Bryan explained, “Me and Tate, we’re fishing, and stopped by to get some snacks from a gas station. This kind of big guy — big guy, tatted up — he’s just staring me down. I’m like, ‘Ohhh yeah, he recognizes me.'”

“I walk up to the counter,” Bryan continued, “He goes, ‘Man! God, dude, you look just like Blake Shelton. You’re not Blake Shelton, are you?’ And I said, ‘I’m not Blake Shelton.’ He goes, ‘You got to get that all the time.’ Like, I was like, ‘You know, I don’t — every now and then I get it.'”

Clearly tickled by the exchange, Bryan recalled, “But he goes, ‘Well, you — you’re his doppelganger! And like, I just, I mean, you know who he is? He’s on that TV show!’ I said, ‘Yeah, I know who he is.’ And he
goes, ‘Could you imagine what it would be like to have Blake Shelton’s money!?’

Bryan loudly laughed at that last line before abruptly ending the video. His wife, Caroline Bryan, hit up his comments with a funny reply writing, “I never get called Gwen….😂”

Thousands of Fans Responded to Fan’s Case of Mistaken Identity With Luke Bryan

Shelton has yet to respond to Bryan’s video, but thousands of fans have weighed in, surprised and amused by the fan mixing up him and Shelton.

One person’s comment, which drew nearly 2,000 likes, said, “You should have face timed Blake!! That would have blown his mind!🔥”

Another popular comment came from someone who wrote, “I would’ve said no but I get I look like Luke Bryan a lot lol”

Someone else theorized that the fan simply got tongue-tied, writing, “I think he was just so stunned you were right in front of him he blanked out on your name . I bet he wasn’t even realizing his mouth was saying Blake while his brain was processing he was staring at Luke!”

The two country superstars have been friends for a long time, and love sarcastically joking about what a loser the other is. But behind the scenes, Bryan trusts and loves Shelton, even calling on the former “Voice” coach for advice — as well as former “Idol” judge Keith Urban — when ABC offered him a seat at the judges’ table in 2017.

On the March 11 edition of Bobby Bones’ podcast, Bryan said, “I called Blake and we had a great talk, and he was like, ‘Luke, TV opens up another domain and dynamic.’ And I called Keith, and he said, man, he had loved it. Those are two guys that I love and trust.”
