Carrie Underwood may be a country queen, but she knows how to rock!
And she knows how to surprise fans!
She did BOTH when she took the stage April 5 to join rock band Papa Roach at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, where the rockers were playing a tour stop.
Underwood was in Sin City performing some her final shows in her more than three-year long Las Vegas Residency “Reflection” at Resorts World. That residency wraps up April 12.
Carrie Underwood & Jacoby Shaddix Share Live Version of Collab
Fortunate fans at Papa Roach’s Vegas show got to see Carrie Underwood and Papa Roach lead singer Jacoby Shaddix perform their collaboration, “Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark).” It’s the first time the pair have performed the song live.
“Leave a Light on (Talk Away the Dark)” was originally released by Papa Roach on their 2022 album “Ego Trip.” But Shaddix re-recorded the poignant song about suicide with Carrie in 2024. Both artists pledged a perpetual royalty from the song’s use, in any manner, to support those affected by suicide.
In a statement to “PEOPLE,” Underwood said, “This collaboration has meant so much to me. Getting to perform ‘Leave a Light On’ live with Jacoby for the first time was incredibly special.”
Shaddix agreed, telling “PEOPLE, “What a night it was in Vegas. To finally do ‘Leave a Light On’ live with Carrie Underwood was so rad, especially after all the work we both have been doing to raise money and awareness for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.”
“I am so grateful to be able to bring two worlds together for such a great cause,” he continued.
Carrie Underwood Rocks Out with Papa Roach
But after Shaddix and Underwood sang the touching, emotional song, they were ready to rock!
42-year-old Underwood showed her rock n’ roll chops when she joined Papa Roach performing the band’s smash hit “Last Resort,” to mark the song’s 25th anniversary.
Carrie told “PEOPLE,” “Jumping into ‘Last Resort?’ That was just pure adrenaline! I was so incredibly excited to rock out on stage with the guys.”
Underwood Prepares to Wrap Up Vegas Residency
Carrie Underwood will wrap up her more than three-year Las Vegas residency at Resorts World on Saturday, April 12.
While the singer says it will be bittersweet to see her “Reflection” show come to an end, she told “Las Vegas Magazine” that the timing is right as she shifts her focus to being a judge on “American Idol.”
“The timing did work out beautifully as ‘Idol’ came together,” said Underwood. “It’s a bit of a full-circle moment for me in a number of ways, given that the ‘Reflection’ show is really a celebration of my career so far, which I owe so much of to ‘American Idol.’ And similar to the residency, the ‘Idol’ schedule is spread out over time, so neither meant being away from home for too long at one time.”
While the live show may be ending, fans can still catch “Reflection” any time. Underwood filmed the full show for Hulu. You can watch it streaming on both Hulu and Disney+.
