Hallmark Channel Serves Up Huge News for ‘The Chicken Sisters’ Fans

Six months after Hallmark debuted its new series “The Chicken Sisters” exclusively on its streaming platform, Hallmark+, the show will make its Hallmark Channel premiere on March 30, 2025.

The network announced the news on March 8 as requests for a second season have grown on social media from viewers who’ve already fallen in love with the show and it’s all-star cast, including Lea Thompson, Wendie Malick, Schuyler Fisk, and Genevieve Angelson. Though Hallmark has not officially announced a second season, pre-production is underway, according to multiple sources.

‘The Chicken Sisters’ Will Fill ‘When Calls The Heart’ Timeslot Beginning on March 30

The linear cable debut of “The Chicken Sisters” is music to the ears of Hallmark fans who don’t subscribe to Hallmark+, which launched in September 2024 with exclusive content to complement its vast library of Hallmark movies.

Among the hundreds of comments left on the network’s Instagram and Facebook posts, one fan wrote, “Fantastic! I was hoping it would be on Hallmark Channel! YAY!!! This looks like another good series to watch”

Another wrote, “Yay, so happy my mom can watch it now! I’ve been telling her how much she’d love it!”

The show, based on the best-selling book of the same name by KJ Dell’Antonia, centers around a “generations-old feud” between two family-run chicken restaurants, Frannie’s and Mimi’s, that has divided the small town of Merinac for years. Tensions only escalate when a TV crew comes to town to film a competition show — “Ultimate Kitchen Clash” — pitting the rival restaurants against each other in the quest for a $100,000 prize.

The eight-episode first season will premiere on Hallmark Channel on March 30 at 9 p.m. Eastern time, and then air each Sunday night — filling the gap left in that timeslot after the season 12 finale of “When Calls The Heart” on March 23.

Production Trades Say Season 2 of ‘The Chicken Sisters’ Will Begin Filming in April

Among all the comments flooding into Hallmark’s social media accounts about the cable premiere of “The Chicken Sisters,” a large choir of fans who have already watched the show on Hallmark+ sang its praises and pleaded for a second season.

One wrote on Instagram, “When is season 2 coming?? Been patiently waiting! Long enough, might I add! 🎥🎬2️⃣”

Another chimed in, “This is the best series! We need season 2!”

It looks like their wishes will be granted. Though Hallmark has not officially announced a second season, multiple production trades in Vancouver, including Creative BC, have posted that season 2 of “The Chicken Sisters” is scheduled to film from April 7 through early July.

Thompson is listed among the season’s directors, according to the ACFC West union website. Annie Mebane will return as the showrunner, Moviedelic reported in January, with season one directors Kimmy Gatewood, Shannon Kohli, and Monika Mitchell returning, too.

The “Chicken Sisters” cast has talked in previous interviews and on social media about what a tight bond they forged filming the first season. Fisk wrote in October on Instagram, “i really loved every minute of this process and am so grateful for this journey!”
