Hallmark star Colin Egglesfield has survived cancer three times, and he opened up about the experience during a recent appearance.
The “Autumn Dreams” star talked with 12News while attending an MLB training game in Glendale, Arizona. As the media outlet noted, Egglesfield has had testicular cancer twice, and also had prostate cancer.
In addition, Egglesfield told 12News that both of his parents had cancer. His mother had breast cancer, and his father had prostate cancer. His father eventually died after getting a lymphoma diagnosis.
While talking to 12News, Egglesfield shared a message for others navigating their own cancer diagnosis. “Don’t give up… don’t give up.”
Colin Egglesfield Acknowledged Navigating Cancer Can Be Scary & Overwhelming
Egglesfield added, “There’s (sic) people out there who care, who support you and you’ve just got to be honest about how you’re feeling,” he said.
He acknowledged that navigating a cancer diagnosis and treatments is difficult. Egglesfield shared, “I know how scary it can be just trying to handle all of this. Because it’s not just the physical, you know, the surgery and the radiation and all that stuff, it’s just the mental and emotional part of it too.”
“It’s overwhelming to be honest with you,” he added. He reiterated, “And I’m telling you — just don’t give up.”
On February 24, Egglesfield shared a lengthy note on his Instagram page. He posted a photo showing him standing with one of his doctors.
In the caption, Egglesfield began, “There’s (sic) few people that you can say have saved your life. This is my doctor, Dr. Gellhaus and today I came in for my tests and follow up appointment and he let me know that I am cancer free for the third time.”
Egglesfield continued, “I can’t begin to say how grateful I am to him, his team, and all the incredible staff at @cityofhopephx and the @cityofhopecancerfighters team.”
“I’m feeling a mix of gratitude, disbelief, and numbness to all this because it’s been a lot to process and I don’t think I’ve had a chance to fully do so,” he added.
The Hallmark Star Believes It’s Courageous to Ask for Help
In the caption of his Instagram post, the Hallmark star noted, “I have to keep reminding myself that it’s okay to feel scared and anxious and it’s courageous to ask for help when you need it.” I’m just so ” He also thanked Dr. Gellhaus and his team for “helping me feel supported 1000% through all this.”
Egglesfield also shared that “there is support out there” for others facing difficult life challenges or health issues. However, he added, “most of the time it’s not just going to magically appear. You have to be brave enough to ask for help when you need it and find the right people who will listen.”
The actor also shared with his followers, “you’re not defined by any of your challenges either. You’re grander than it all. I’m not my fear, my anxiousness or my scars but I embrace it all because the only way to transform it is to own it.”
The comment section of Egglesfield’s Instagram post was flooded with notes of support and congratulations.
