At the December Christmas Con in New Jersey, four “Good Witch” stars attended a cast panel to reminisce about the show. Catherine Bell (Cassie), James Denton (Sam), Sarah Power (Abigail), and Catherine Disher (Martha) were all present, sharing their stories about the show. During the panel, the cast revealed that they’re all on board and ready to bring the franchise back whenever Hallmark gives them the go ahead.
The Cast Is ‘Working On’ Getting a New Movie Approved
Bell started out by talking about how much she misses the show, and how it ended a bit unexpectedly.
“I really miss doing the show,” Bell said. “I miss it. I miss you guys. I miss the character. I miss the magic. I think we were all a bit surprised that it ended. It seemed to end a little bit sooner than I think everyone wanted. Certainly from what you guys were telling us as well.”
Then she brought up the idea of bringing the show back.
“We have not given up trying to get a movie made,” she said. “We’re working on it. We’re all in.”
Denton agreed.
“We’re making it easy,” he said enthusiastically. “We’re just like, ”Tell us where to be. We all want to do it. Just set it up and we’ll show up.’ We’re hoping.”
Disher and Power also agreed with the sentiment.
Hallmark Has Teased Bringing Back the Franchise
In early July 2021, during season 7, Hallmark surprised fans by announcing the show’s cancelation while it was still airing.
Then just about a year later in August 2022, during a Crown Media panel for the Television Critics Association, Wonya Lucas, (who was then President and CEO of Hallmark Media), hinted that Hallmark might bring “Good Witch” back, Variety reported.
“As far as ‘Good Witch,’ which I think we’re always interested in thinking about what we can do with our most popular IP,” Lucas said. “I can’t announce anything specific about that.”
In September 2021, Heavy reached out to Hallmark and got confirmation that the network might not be done with “Good Witch.”
A network representative told Heavy: “We have no immediate plans for another ‘Good Witch’ movie. That said, Catherine Bell, James Denton, and Katherine Barrell, among others, are members of the Hallmark Channel family, and we are in discussions on future projects.”
Denton also told TV Insider that he thought there was a chance the show might return one day.
“Nobody’s made me an offer,” he added. “There’s nothing in the works, but I think the odds are decent just because I know the network respects the franchise.”
Two Different Endings for ‘Good Witch’ Were Filmed
Liz Heersink, who owns the house where exterior Grey House shots for the series were still filmed, in told The Hamilton Spectator that two endings were filmed.
“I was told they were shooting two endings,” she recalled. “Ok, I thought, that’s the end of the show.”
And in a Facebook live discussion just before the series finale aired, Denton and Bell talked about the two different endings. The cast and crew did not know that the series was going to be canceled, but they did have an ending planned that wrapped everything up nicely without any cliffhangers.
“We did two versions,” Bell said. “…We didn’t know we were not coming back, but there were two options. I guess they do that sometimes.”
