Fans of “Happy Gilmore” can rejoice, the cult classic is finally getting a sequel after almost 30 years. The aptly titled, “Happy Gilmore 2,” is set to release to Netflix on July 25, 2025 with Adam Sandler back as the hilarious, unpredictable golfer we all know and love. Those who enjoyed the original, should get ready for more wild moments, quirky humor, and epic golf action (obviously). The bottom line is that this sequel is sure to hit a hole-in-one with both longtime fans and newcomers.
A Familiar Cast with Some New Faces
Julie Bowen is coming back as Virginia Venit alongside Christopher McDonald as the wicked Shooter McGavin, per USA Today. It seems like there will be a lot of great throwback moments with these two. But the casting news doesn’t stop there with “Happy Gilmore 2” bringing in a bunch of fresh faces like Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce, and professional golfers Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas. Sandler’s daughters, Sadie and Sunny, will also be making appearances, adding an interesting twist to the mix. To be honest, with all these returning characters and additions, the sequel is shaping up to be a star-studded film.
Behind the Scenes of the Sequel
Kyle Newacheck who worked on films like “Workaholics,” “Game Over, Man!,” “Murder Mystery 2,” and “Stranger in the Woods,” will be directing the film. It seems like “Happy Gilmore 2” has all the things it needs to be something both familiar and new. Sandler and Tim Herlihy, who worked on the original script, are back as the writers for “Happy Gilmore 2.” It’s obvious they want to make sure the tone stays true to the first film while adding some new laughs.
This new movie was shot in a bunch of different locations, particularly New Jersey, where Sandler was spotted on set making fans go wild. While not directing this time, Dennis Dugan is returning as the tour commissioner, Doug Thompson bringing a sense of continuity between the two films which is sure to bring up all those nostalgic feelings in the fans.
