The Life List stars Kyle Allen and Sebastian de Souza spoke to ComingSoon about their new romantic comedy drama movie. The duo discussed working with Sofia Carson, the film’s portrayal of relationships, and more. The Netflix movie will be available to stream on March 28, 2025.

“When Alex Rose’s mother sends her on a quest to complete her childhood bucket list, it takes her on a journey that will make you both laugh and cry as she uncovers family secrets, finds romance, and discovers herself along the way,” says the synopsis for The Life List with Kyle Allen and Sebastian de Souza.

Tyler Treese: Kyle, I wanted to ask about your character, Brad, because he doesn’t start off as a romantic interest initially with Sofia’s character. Handling the will isn’t quite a meet-cute. They still have an enjoyable chemistry, but it’s not like an instant hit. How is it making sure that there’s room to grow?

Kyle Allen: I think the professional circumstances of their relationship lead much better into a friendship than an immediate romance. So I think technically it was really simple and I think the rest of it I have to defer to Sofia and — of course — Adam Brooks for kind of guiding that. He was really specific about it. He knew what went where in terms of our chemistry at any given moment and built that really beautifully.

Sebastian, your character, Garrett, is the complete opposite. You and Sofia just have that instant connection. It starts on the train. It’s really cute. You wanna see them get together. What stood out about Sofia as a scene partner and striking that chemistry with you?

Sebastian de Souza: Well, sometimes you work with people, and you are really real, and you meet them. Maybe you’ve got to play some romantic storyline with them, and you think this is really scary because this person, I don’t know, is just not my kind of person. Sofia is the most open, generous, spirited person in the world. So, it was like it was totally and utterly joyous and completely easy like a walk in the park.

Kyle, I just love the core idea of having a life list. If you were making a life list for yourself, what’s one item that would be on it?

Allen: Behold. Let me tell you, I would like to be punched in the face. This side of my face, preferably by Jackie Chan, in a professional setting.

de Souza: I’ve never heard you say that.

Allen: Yeah, that’s the first time. I’ve never told anyone.

de Souza: That’s extraordinary. Can you imagine?

Let’s will this into existence.

Allen: I bet he’s got firm yet soft hands [laughs].

Sebastian, one thing I really enjoyed about this film was how maturely it handles relationships. Even though some people break up and it doesn’t work out, nobody’s cartoonishly evil or the villain. It’s just adults all trying to find their way through life. What did you like most about this film’s approach to that?

Sebastian de Souza: As you say, it’s very realistic, and it’s true to life, and it’s human. I mean, I’m a sucker for a romantic film. A romantic comedy. A romantic drama. What do we call this? A romantic drama comedy rom-com.

I’m a sucker for it for them, but very often, they don’t mirror my experience. But this did pretty much ’cause I don’t ever really get the girl. So anyway, I dunno if we’re supposed to say that. But yeah. So this was very true to life for me.

Hopefully, you’ll find true love after this movie. You both are such hunks during it.

Allen: [toward Sebastian] Look at that hunk.

de Souza: [gestures toward Kyle] This is the hunk., I’m afraid.
