Gwyneth Paltrow Once Called Brad Pitt the Love of Her Life
Back in the mid-90s, Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt were two of the brightest up-and-coming stars in Hollywood. They were also an “It” couple, dating from 1994 to 1997. In the three decades since, Paltrow and Pitt have both had other high-profile relationships. But before either got married and started their respective families, Paltrow called Pitt the love of her life.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt Met On a Movie Set
Paltrow and Pitt met back in 1994 on the set of the David Fincher film “Se7en,” where they played a married couple. Of course, their on-screen relationship had a tragic ending. But the two started dating in real life not long after they met. And by 1996, they were engaged.
“He was so gorgeous and sweet. I mean, he was Brad Pitt!” Paltrow recalled during a 2015 interview with Howard Stern. The Oscar winner noted that her father, late director Bruce Paltrow, was “devastated” when she and Pitt broke up just a few months after the engagement.
During a 2023 interview on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Paltrow was asked some very personal questions about her list of famous exes, including her relationship with Pitt. She revealed that when she met the Missouri native, it was “major love at first sight. It was crazy.”
The Goop Founder Still Considers Brad Pitt the ‘Love of Her Life’
Despite their instant connection and the three-year romance that followed, Paltrow and Pitt split before they walked down the aisle. According to the Goop founder, she wasn’t ready to marry.
“I had a lot of development to do, looking back in hindsight. In a lot of ways, I didn’t really fully start to come into myself until I was 40 years old,” Paltrow said. “And I had such a pleasing issue. I didn’t really even understand how to listen to my instincts and act from that place.”
Even though it was “the right thing at that time,” she made it clear that breaking up with Pitt was “really hard” and she was “totally heartbroken” when they split.
Paltrow got quite candid when host Alex Cooper had her play a game of “Brad or Ben,” comparing exes Pitt and Ben Affleck. Cooper asked her who was better in bed, and what she said was very revealing.
“Brad was like the sort of major chemistry, love of your life, kind of, at the time, and then Ben was, like, technically excellent,” Paltrow said.
Gwyneth Paltrow Is Still Friends With Her Ex
After her relationship with Pitt ended, Paltrow dated Affleck from 1997 to 2000. Then, she married Coldplay frontman Chris Martin in 2003. They were together for more than a decade before their “conscious uncoupling” in 2016. Two years later, Paltrow married Brad Falchuk.
All these years later, Paltrow considers Pitt a friend, and they “don’t have any really bad blood.” On her own Goop podcast, Paltrow said that Pitt is “a great guy. He’s wonderful. I really like him a lot.”
