Hallmark Channel to Premiere Its 1st Reality Series Since 2019

Six years after Hallmark Channel last aired an original unscripted series — “Meet the Peetes,” a reality show about Hallmark star Holly Robinson Peete’s family — the cable network is about to give reality TV another try.
The network’s streaming platform, Hallmark+, has debuted multiple unscripted series since its September 2024 launch and was initially touted as the home of actress Connie Britton’s new unscripted series, “The Motherhood.” But on March 31, 2025, the network announced the six-episode series will air instead on Hallmark Channel, per Deadline, with each episode available to stream the following day on Hallmark+.
Connie Britton’s Experience as a Single Mom Inspired New Show
“The Motherhood” will premiere on Hallmark Channel on May 5, per Deadline, with two back-to-back episodes beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern time. The remaining episodes will air each Monday night through June 2.
Britton is a single mom to teenage son Eyob (nicknamed Yoby), whom she adopted from Ethiopia in 2012, according to Parade, just before moving to Tennessee to star in the hit ABC/CMT series “Nashville.”
“I didn’t know a soul,” she told the outlet, adding that she “started working 16-hour days, 18-hour days, and had this little baby at home and was like, ‘Ahhhh.’ It was kind of crisis mode a little bit because I didn’t know what I was doing, and I really didn’t have people to rely on.”
That experience inspired Britton to develop and executive produce “The Motherhood.” The premise has her and a support team that consists of a home design specialist, a parenting coach, and a style expert swooping in to help single mothers. Together, they’ll give each mom “a better living space,” per Deadline, update her wardrobe, and offer parenting advice.
Britton told Parade, “I went into (that chapter of my life) a little bit blindly, not really fully anticipating what it is to be a single mom and how difficult that is, and what you’re taking on in doing that. I had a stay-at-home nanny. So I realized, ‘Oh my gosh, at least I have help.’”
Connie Britton’s New Hallmark Series is Produced by Team Behind ‘Queer Eye’
On its website, Hallmark Channel noted that Britton’s series “marks the return of unscripted programming to the Hallmark Channel primetime lineup.” It’s also the network’s first “transformation” series, per Deadline. The show is produced by Scout Productions, known best for being the creative force behind Netflix’s “Queer Eye.”
Britton told Parade it took her seven years to find the right producing partner in Michael Williams, an Emmy-winning producer and co-founder of Scout. The series was filmed in Kansas City in the fall of 2024, per Parade.
Williams told the outlet that each episode introduces a new single mom and what her biggest needs are. With Britton serving as host, she then brings in the team of experts — known as the “Neighbor Ladies” to work their magic.
A spokesperson for Hallmark told EntertainmentNOW that the decision was made to premiere “The Motherhood” on both Hallmark Channel and Hallmark+ because it turned out to be “so special.”
In a statement, David Stefanou, Hallmark Media’s head of unscripted programming, said, “The stories we tell live and breathe universal themes of care, connection, family, and heart – all of which are longstanding, core tenets of the Hallmark brand that people know and love. Thanks to Connie Britton’s passion and vision for ‘The Motherhood,’ this series is the perfect way to bring this positive impact to a broad audience, showcasing deserving women and the communities that come together to make a lasting impact on their lives.”
Hallmark+ continues to have a slate of original unscripted programming exclusively available on the streamer, including Luke Macfarlane’s new “Home Is Where The Heart Is,” which premiered in March. Two series — “Celebrations With Lacey Chabert” and “Finding Mr. Christmas” with Jonathan Bennett and Melissa Peterman — have been renewed for second seasons.
