Applause Entertainment ropes in Hansal Mehta to helm “The Scam”

The National Award winning director to direct a web series on the 1992 securities scam

Soon after acquiring the rights of the bestselling book ‘The Scam’ on India’s biggest securities scams of 1992, Applause Entertainment has taken the excitement quotient a notch higher as they have roped in National Award winning director Hansal Mehta to helm the series. ‘The Scam’ is based on one of the most famous scams in the Indian financial markets and is authored by well-known journalists Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu.

Hansal Mehta is best known for his work in much-acclaimed films such as ‘Shahid’, ‘City Lights’,  ‘Aligarh’ and ‘Omerta’. More recently, Hansal Mehta started his journey in the digital space as the creative producer of the much-acclaimed series ‘Bose: Dead/Alive’ featuring Rajkummar Rao.

Hansal Mehta commented – ‘I had read the ‘The Scam’ many years ago and even toyed with the idea of making it into a film. The film never got made! I believe every story has its destiny. With our newspapers screaming scam every single day, I think the time for telling these stories was just right. When Sameer and I met to discuss what we could do together and he offered this subject to me I had to say yes! I have a lot of respect for Sameer and his knack of choosing content that is relevant and has the potential for mass viewership. I’m looking forward to bringing this thrilling drama to life! 

 The first season of this multi-season show will showcase the Harshad Mehta’s story. The country’s casting maestro Mukesh Chabbra and Hansal Mehta will come together to look for the perfect lead who will essay the role of Harshad in the series. After giving a powerhouse like Rajkummar Rao to the industry, we can definitely expect the duo to dazzle us once again.
