HBO's Harry Potter Remake Must Finally Redeem The Worst Gryffindor After The Movies' Massive Mistake 14 Years Ago

The upcoming HBO remake of Harry Potter can finally redeem arguably the worst Gryffindor character to appear in the original movie franchise. HBO’s Harry Potter series is a reboot, presenting a new vision of the Wizarding World that allows for an exploration of various events covered in J.K. Rowling’s novels that were not featured in the $7.7 billion movie franchise.
Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger have been cast in HBO’s Harry Potter series, while it has been confirmed that each season will cover each book in the saga. Molly Weasley’s casting has also been announced, and the HBO series shows signs that it intends to expand into focusing on different side characters in the franchise, including the Weasley family.
The new focus on side characters in the Harry Potter franchise could potentially allow the HBO series to finally explore one of the book series’ major sideplots that was completely cut from the movies.
Percy Weasley Was The Most Frustrating Member Of Ron’s Family – And Shouldn’t Have Been In Gryffindor
Percy Disowned His Family & Sided With The Ministry Of Magic In Order Of The Phoenix
One important member of the Weasley family tree is Percy Weasley, the third-oldest sibling of the family. Throughout the Harry Potter franchise, Percy stands out as the most academically–inclined of his siblings and, after leaving Hogwarts, finds work at the Ministry of Magic. As the series progresses, Percy becomes the most frustrating Weasley for his estrangement from his family.
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Percy refused to acknowledge Lord Voldemort’s return and expressed anger at his family for their support of Harry and Professor Dumbledore. Percy disowned his family in a heartbreaking Harry Potter separation, and refused to speak to any of them, focusing single-mindedly on his Ministry job.

Percy’s estrangement from his family is explored several times throughout Order of the Phoenix; he refused to visit the family at Christmas and Percy was the only Weasley who didn’t visit his father, Arthur, at St. Mungo’s. It’s this moment that highlights Percy as the least kind Weasley family member and the worst Weasley sorted into Gyffindor.

HBO’s Harry Potter Remake Is Finally Giving Justice To One Of The Movies’ Most Failed Characters
New casting news for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter remake hints that one of the movies’ more neglected characters will finally get some justice.
It was only during the Battle of Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that Percy finally acknowledged his mistakes and reconciled with his family. In one of the saddest Harry Potter moments, Percy was witness to his younger brother, Fred’s, death, and refused to leave his body before finally continuing to fight.
Percy notably redeemed himself during the Battle of Hogwarts, so it was disappointing that this arc was completely removed from the movies.
Percy Weasley (Chris Rankin) appeared in both Deathly Hallows movies. Frustratingly, however, save for the family mourning over Fred’s death, there is no moment of acknowledgment of Percy’s past behavior or any sign of reconciliation between the Weasleys. Considering how Percy’s disownment affected the family in the books, it’s disappointing that it was never addressed in the movies.
Harry Potter’s TV Show Must Finally Include Percy’s Redemption From Deathly Hallows & Prove Why He’s A Gryffindor
It’s A Chance To Better Showcase His Journey From Black Sheep To Loyal Weasley Family Member
Throughout the Harry Potter franchise, Percy Weasley established himself as the black sheep of his family and one of the most evil Gryffindors. Due to his arrogance, selfishness, and abandonment of his family, it’s been questioned why Percy was sorted into Gryffindor, an element that should be addressed in the TV series.

HBO’s remake of Harry Potter promises to be more faithful to the original book series than the movie franchise. The TV series is expected to include important missing characters from the movies, cover forgotten elements from the books, and amend unaddressed Wizarding World issues.

Harry Potter’s Ginny Weasley Was A More Powerful Witch Than The Movies Gave Her Credit For
Bonnie Wright stunned viewers as Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, but she was even more powerful than the movies gave her credit for.
These upcoming changes in the HBO series mean that the franchise can finally properly include Percy Weasley’s redemption arc. As Percy Weasley disappeared from the movies, his transformation from black sheep to loyal family member was never fully addressed. Hopefully, HBO’s Harry Potter series will help redeem Percy and showcase why he truly deserves to be called a Gryffindor.
