Huang Zitao Faces Criticism for Oversharing During Sanitary Product Launch

Chinese singer and entrepreneur Huang Zitao is facing public criticism following remarks made during a promotional event for his newly launched sanitary product brand.

While introducing the necessity and design rationale behind the brand’s features, Huang Zitao shared a highly personal anecdote involving his partner Xu Yiyang, sparking discomfort among attendees and online audiences alike.

In an attempt to emphasize the importance of reliable and absorbent sanitary pads, Huang Zitao stated that Xu Yiyang bleeds heavily during her menstrual cycle, to the point that blood occasionally drips onto the floor—prompting him to clean it up.

Though seemingly intended to highlight product practicality and his empathy as a partner, the revelation was widely viewed as an inappropriate breach of privacy, especially as Xu Yiyang was present in the audience during the speech.

Social media users expressed mixed reactions. While some appreciated the intent to raise awareness and normalize conversations around menstruation, others criticized Huang Zitao for oversharing intimate details in a public setting, arguing that it undermined Xu Yiyang’s dignity and crossed a personal boundary. The fact that she was visibly present during the event added to the awkwardness of the moment.

Commentators noted that public figures carry a responsibility to be mindful of personal disclosures, especially when they involve others. Huang Zitao’s anecdote, though well-meaning in context, has reignited ongoing conversations in Chinese media about the limits of public discourse and the importance of respecting one’s partner’s privacy especially in promotional contexts.
