Hugh Jackman probably thought he was being a supportive boyfriend with his gushing Instagram post about Sutton Foster‘s Tuesday night performance at Cafe Carlyle in New York City — but fans didn’t see it that way.
Instead of complimentary comments about their relationship, Jackman’s critics reminded him of his ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness. The post showed a smiling snapshot of Foster with her musicians, and a video clip of her waving to the camera. He wrote in the caption on November 26, “@suttonlenore performing during the holidays at @cafecarlyle … now that’s an iconic NYC night! And, truly magical.”
Well, the response was a little more biting than the 57-year-old actor probably expected. One follower wrote in the comments, “Reminiscent of the praise you always heaped on Deb.”
Another account added, “TOO SOON. You made promises to Deb, and we all believed you. We all thought, ‘Finally, in Hollywood, here is a man who is honoring the commitments he made.’ Right up until a younger woman comes along, eh, Hugh?”

The blows just kept on coming, with other followers “liking” the criticism. “That’s embarrassing, Hugh! We used to think you were cool. What a disappointment,” a third critic wrote.
While Jackman and Foster have never admitted to an affair, Furness hinted at the possible overlap in their 27-year marriage in a May 2025 statement to the Daily Mail.
“My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,” she said to the outlet. “It’s a profound wound that cuts deep; however, I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us.”
The rumors of an overlapping relationship began in October 2024 when pop culture influencer Tasha Lustig posted an Instagram video about the allegations.
“Do y’all remember when I told you this man was up to no good?” she said while claiming Furness was “blindsided” by Jackman’s actions. Furness’ pal Amanda de Cadenet chimed in the comments, confirming the story. “You are on point with this one. My beloved friend Deb is about to have her glow up any moment fyi,” she wrote while Furness “liked” Lustig’s post from a private account.
Then someone from Foster’s inner circle confirmed the news to Us Weekly that same month.
“Sutton and Hugh’s relationship is the reason Hugh and Deb got divorced,” they claimed. “A lot of people on Broadway knew, and we kept it quiet because both of them are so nice and great people. Everyone respected their privacy. But there was an affair and overlap.”
Jackman and Foster hard-launched their romance in January 2025 with cozy paparazzi photos published by People, and they haven’t been shy about sharing their love for each other ever since.
Jackman and Furness announced their separation in September 2023 and officially divorced in May 2025. They share two children: Oscar, 24, and Ava, 20.
Foster filed for divorce from Ted Griffin after 10 years of marriage in October 2024. They share a daughter, Emily, 8.
Jackman and Foster worked on the Broadway revival of The Music Man together from December 2021 until January 2023.
