After a small hiatus, television’s most popular Bhabi is all set to make a comeback tonight on &TV. While both Tiwari (Rohitash Gaud) and Vibhuti (Aasif Sheikh) have been waiting with bated breath for Angoori, their prayers have been answered, and Angoori will soon step back into their lives.
Popular actress Shubhangi Atre will now be seen portraying the role of Angoori Bhabhi in &TV’s popular sitcom Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai. Below is an excerpt of her interview.
Have you seen the show before? What was your first reaction when you got the call confirming you for the role?
Yes, I have seen the show. In fact, I am a big fan of the show and have watched it regularly. All the characters are very popular and it’s a cult show on television. It’s a dream for any artist to be a part of a show like this and play such a well-crafted character like Angoori. I was very excited and thrilled when I was offered this role. Incidentally, it was my birthday, 11th April when I received a call for this show and I don’t think there could have been a perfect birthday gift.
Shilpa Shinde has etched her image as Bhabhiji in everyone’s mind. Do you think you will be able to match that?
As an actor, I will try my best to do complete justice with the character. I am sure that the viewers will love their Angoori Bhabhi regardless of the actor who plays the part and continue to provide their love and affection to their favorite character.
How many times have you practiced the line “Sahi pakde hain” in front of the mirror?
To be honest, quite a few time (smiles). It’s the most popular catchphrase currently on television and to play the character of Angoori bhabhi I had to first master the line. It’s interesting to know that people from all walks of life are using this line. From my vegetable vendor to the rickshaw-wallas… it has become quite a rage. Unknowingly, I have used this line myself many a times in different gatherings.
What new nuances are you going to bring in to the character?
My approach towards playing this character will be different. I have started from a clean slate and have been following my director’s brief completely. It’s his vision and the writers expertise that have brought this character alive.
What is your opinion on Shilpa Shinde’s exit from the show? Do you think she was harassed – she mentioned that the Producer mentally harassed her? or do you think this was her plan to twist the producers for more money?
To be honest I am the wrong person to answer this question. I do not know the details beyond a few reports hence commenting on something that I am unaware of will be incorrect on my part.
All I can say is that I have started shooting for the show and the sets, team is wonderful. Everyone is cooperative and accommodating, I have no issues on this.
You will be paired opposite Rohitash Gaud. How excited are you to work with such a stalwart in the field of comedy?
I am very elated that I have got this wonderful opportunity to share the screen space with the talented actor. He is an extremely down-to-earth person and a very good hearted person. I am looking forward to working with him.
What message do you have for the loyal viewers and admirers of the character of Angoori Bhabi Ji?
You have been loyal supporters of the show and particularly for the character of Angoori. It’s because of you that the show has reached such heights of popularity. I hope that I am able to do justice to the role and the audience continues to shower the same love upon me.
