Insomniac’s Cryptic Tweet Could Be Their Mic-Drop Response to Wolverine Critics

With fans finally getting an official look at Marvel’s Wolverine after years, Insomniac is now evidently changing its PR strategy, and for now, it seems to start with addressing critiques through their official X handle.

Many in the community view it as a pointed, almost cheeky response to critics who have doubted the future of Marvel’s Wolverine, or have begun doing so after seeing the official showcase at PlayStation’s State of Play on September 24, 2025.

When a major studio like Insomniac drops two sequential emoji messages with no explanatory text, it’s like setting fire to a stack of hay. The first tweet, which consists of pointing towards you and the clown emoji, can be a direct jab at the critics who have doubted Marvel’s Wolverine.

However, to soften the blow, the studio had a follow-up reply to the original tweet with the clown emoji replaced with a blue heart, perhaps reassuring fans that they are not becoming all arrogant just yet.

It is still unclear what Insomniac Games meant by these latest tweets, but looking at more of their replies, it becomes more certain that, along with a jab at the critics, the studio is also accepting some of the criticism being thrown at them, accepting that they are a part of the “clown team”.

Why Have Fans Been Doubtful of the Upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine

There is a lot of skepticism around Marvel’s Wolverine and Insomniac Games as a whole, and it did not arise out of a vacuum. In 2023, internal builds and gameplay footage of the upcoming game were reportedly leaked, and many went on to criticize them for being unpolished and not reaching the studio’s usually high standards.

While the most recent showcase does a better job of showcasing what Insomniac Games has inside the store, there are still a few critiques out there that have been calling it lackluster. This, combined with the frustration of fans with the studio regarding the cancellation of Spider-Man 2’s DLC, has snowballed into a wall of criticism that the studio can’t seem to avoid.

Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles have set a high bar. When a new IP or a major project gets announced by the same studio, fans expect more than they usually do. While for the majority, the trailer finally brings a good look at one of the most-awaited PlayStation titles, for some, it’s still not enough.
