Is Severance Season 3 Happening Anytime Soon? Ben Stiller Reacts on Fallon Tonight

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, producer-actor Ben Stiller revealed that Season 3 of the hit sci-fi drama Severance is “soon-ish” (via The Rolling Stones). He did not share an exact date, but the update signaled that a new chapter is officially on the way.

The series was already renewed in March 2025, when Apple TV+ confirmed a third season through an X post from CEO Tim Cook. Around the same time, Stiller reassured fans in an interview with LADbible:

I would love to tell you how long you’ll have to wait, but the goal is definitely not to wait three years, between two and three.

The gap between Season 1 and Season 2 stretched nearly three years, driven by industry-wide delays from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes and the show’s famously meticulous creative process. It was a tough delay for fans, but many agree that Severance Season 2 was worth the wait. Season 2’s ambition, expanded world-building, and scope set a new bar for the series.

Now, with filming underway and momentum finally building again, fans can finally breathe easy. The next chapter of the Severance universe is closer than it has ever been.

How Severance Season 3 Could Expand the Universe Beyond Lumon

With Season 2 widening the world of Lumon through new locations, heightened stakes, and glimpses of forces operating outside the company’s walls, Season 3 now has room to truly expand the Severance universe beyond Lumon’s grey cubicles and “macrodata refinement” floors.

After Season 2’s bloody twist, Season 3 could slow-burn its way further into the broader universe, exploring the politics behind severance tech, the external players affected by it, and the global ripple effects of a company like Lumon holding that level of power

Ben Stiller has already teased that the tone and scope are shifting in the new season. Although he will not be directing episodes this time, he remains deeply involved and has said Season 3 could be the show’s strongest chapter yet.

The bigger question now is where the story will go: Will the show finally step outside Lumon’s labyrinthine HQ? Explore the out-world lives of “outies“? Or dive deeper into society’s response to the severance procedure itself? Season 3 may answer all of these, moving beyond Lumon in ways the show has only begun to hint at.

Severance Season 2: Themes, Highlights & Standout Moments

Season 2 of Severance sparked some compelling theories. It did not just continue the story; it deepened it. The season leaned harder into the show’s core themes: the fragility of identity, the ethics of memory manipulation, and the growing tension between the meticulously engineered “innies and the far messier “outies.”

One of the standout shifts this season was its scale. Season 2 pulled the camera back, revealing more of Lumon’s influence and the eerie machinery behind severance tech.

The performances also hit new highs. Adam Scott delivered his most emotionally layered work yet, balancing Mark’s fractured dual existence with a quiet intensity. Britt Lower’s Helly became an even stronger focal point, navigating the consequences of her choices from both sides of her severed life. Meanwhile, Patricia Arquette’s Harmony Cobel remained one of television’s most compelling antagonists.

Season 2 also offered some of the show’s most memorable moments: unexpected alliances, moral dilemmas that pushed characters to their limits, and reveals that reshaped everything fans thought they understood about Lumon’s mission.

Together, these threads set the stage for Severance Season 3, promising to be bigger, bolder, and far more unpredictable than anything the series has attempted so far. What themes or moments from Season 2 left the biggest impact on you? Share your thoughts in the comments!
