Jagga Jasoos: The Trailer Is Finally Out…But What Is IT???!!!!

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Yup, there is some of both in the long-awaited trailer of Jagga Jasoos. Planes fly. Birds run…Or is the other way around? This could be the fey surreal world of Harry Potter pottering in some North Eastern state of India in pursuit of some desi picaresque mythology.

On the other hand this could be a  sequel to Anurag Basu’s Barfi. Excited? Ranbir wears exactly the same expressions of Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life meets  Balu Mahendra’s Sadma, meets Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black. And they all crash-land into Barfi.

The leading man carries the cult of capriciousness to a new quirky new high.

The trailer follows suit. The images of the outdoors containing plenty of animals and greenery are visually rich and cinematic  in a topographically resplendent way.No doubt cinematographer Ravi Varman is a painter of luminous landscapes. Varman invests into the dream-scheme a  profusion of unrelated but resplendent visuals which don’t add up to much, except yet another Ranbir-Anurag Basu outing that is going to be as quirky as a baby –shower in the middle of am opera performance.

It’s all too flimsy and scattered. Criminally the trailer of Jagga Jasoos tells us nothing, absolutely NOTHING, about the film except that it has lots of animals, and that Ranbir and Katrina Kaif(she trying hard to be a woman under the influence of severe attack of whimsy) go on  a train journey with the animals.

But beyond that? Who are these people? What do they want?  Why are they behaving like kindergarten kids whose class teacher has taken break to go to the loo? Why is there a sense of Barfi-revisited about the whole look feel and flavor of the trailer?

When it ends Ranbir speaks the only words in the trailer. “Phath gaye tthe honth

Even my lips are dry after watching the trailer.Beyond the pretty images of a handsome couple running through a gauntlet of exotic animals, the trailer makes no sense.

I hope the film has more and tail than those sticking out of computer-generated animals.

Trailer Rating: ** 1/2
