Jaideep Ahlawat, who shot to fame with Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur and Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi, is set to spring a huge surprise on the audience and his fans with his next offering, Paatal Lok , an investigative drama on Amazon Prime Video . Ahlawat plays Inspector Hathiram investigating an assassination attempt on a primetime journalist .
Jaideep’s reputation as a prolific performer in Hindi cinema started almost a decade ago, with films like the multi-starrer Aakrosh and the Akshay Kumar-starrer Khatta Meetha. But, the actor feels it’s Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur (in which he played the role of Shahid Khan) that proved to be a game-changer for him.
“I got seriously noticed for my performance in that film” says Ahlawat, hoping for an encore in the near future.
Jaideep sees himself in the same league as naturalistic actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pankaj Tripathi and Manoj Bajpayee.
The versatile actor has always been interested in theatre during his college days, and also enrolled in the popular FTII, Pune to pursue a career in acting. With no godfather and no filmy background, it was only Jaideep’s persistent efforts and determination that fulfilled his dream to make his mark as an actor. Ahlawat hopes to achieve a prominence on the OTT platforms similar to that which Pankaj Tripathi has achieved after his web series Mirzapur.
The police-based crime thriller, written by Sudip Sharma, is all set to release on 15th May and is being produced under Clean Slate Films which is Anushka Sharma’s banner.
