Imtiaz Ali’s Kartik Aryan-Sara Ali Khan starrer Love Aaj Kal has unexpected competition this Valentine’s Day.
Philip Todd’s worldwide blockbuster Joker re-opens in cinemas across India on February 14.
According sources the film’s producers are confident of the film’s large victory at the Oscars on 10 February.
“This is why the film is being brought back four days after the Oscars. Joaquin Phoenix’s Best Actor Oscar for Joker is a no-brainer.The film is also a very strong contender for Best Film and Best Director. Any or all of these Oscars means a a successful re-run for Joker,” says a source.
Not only is Joker the most successful ‘A’ rated film of all times, it is also the most successful English-language film in India of all times. While other potential hits from Hollywood are dubbed into Hindi languages , Joker was released in the original English language only.
In a surprise move, Warner Brothers released Joker on October 2, alongside Yash Raj Films’ War and the Chiranjeevi costume drama Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. Joker was originally slated for an October 4 release. But Warner saw more wisdom in coming on the National holiday on October 2 with the other two Hindi blockbusters considering how talked-about Joker had become the worldwide.
Also, the film came in a unique format. Though the spoken language was only English, there were Hindi subtitles for the national market. This eliminated the trouble of submitting the same film over and over again to the Central Board Of Film Certification in different dubbed languages and also spared the audience some atrocious dubbing and translation.
