Just days before its release Karan Johar’s much-anticipated Jugjugg Jeeyo is in legal trouble .A court in Ranchi has asked Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions to arrange a special screening of the film in response to a lawsuit filed by someone named Vishal A. Singh who claims the film is based on his script.
Singh’s tweet read, “Had registered a story.. #BunnyRani with @swaindiaorg in January 2020. I had officially mailed @DharmaMovies in February 2020 for an opportunity to co-produce with them. I even got a reply from them. And they have taken my story.. and made #JugJuggJeeyo. Not fair @karanjohar.”
Now the question that Dharma Productions’ sources would like to ask Mr Singh is, why did he wait until so late before taking the Jugjugg Jeeyo producers to court? Does he realize what it means for a movie to be targeted so close to the release? Or is that the point: optimum harassment?
This seems like a nuisance litigation against a film on release whereby an effort is made to block a film’s release just weeks or days before the scheduled Friday.
This must stop. It is nothing but a form of extortion. These last-minute legal recourse is meant to paint film producers into a corner.
Pay up some lakhs or face crores of losses if the film gets blocked.
