Julia Michaels Shares What It’s Really Like to Work with Tate McRae
Julia Michaels stopped by the Zach Sang Show and opened up about working with Tate McRae.
When asked if McRae’s talent and professionalism seen on stage translates to the studio, Michaels assured “100%” this is true.
“She is a lyricist, she’s a melodicist, she knows exactly what she wants,” Michaels said on the Zach Sang Show. “We could literally be in the middle of something, and she’s like, ‘This isn’t right.’ I’m like, ‘Cool’…. She will try anything. She is so down. She’s like, ‘You know, I’ll try it. If it doesn’t work for me, then, like, I tried it’. That’s like, that’s artistry.”
Julia Michaels Talks Songwriting
The “Issues” singer also went on to talk about her passion for songwriting.
“I just, honestly, I love songwriting. I love it,” she said. “I love the fact that…I didn’t really know Tate, I didn’t know her very well. But I love that we could be complete strangers, come into a room, we talk for a couple hours, and then we leave with a song…that’s ‘Sports Car’. It’s like, that’s crazy. That didn’t exist. Didn’t even exist yesterday, this morning. And now we get to leave with this, like, really fun, exciting song. And now I get to leave knowing you a little bit more, and knowing what you want to do and how you want to do it… I get inspired by people that are inspired.”

Julia Michaels Released New Music
Michaels released her latest musical body of work on May 23. Her EP “Second Self” is made up of six tracks and includes one feature with Marren Morris.
As Michaels shared at “The Jennifer Hudson Show” on May 23, she is an independent artist and created her own label. The artist went on to unveil the album is “about love, about heartbreak, about sex. Just really me doing everything on my own terms, how I want to do it.”
