Salman Khan’s father Salim Khan, who has been writing scripts for more than 45 years, is known to have one of the best script-writing brains in the business, coming as he does with his wealth of knowledge and experience. Kabir Khan is known to narrate the script to the writer before he starts filming it and has admitted to the media that for Tubelight too, Salman’s father gave him a few valuable insights on how to make the screenplay better.
Salim Khan has watched Tublight right from scratch – when the script was complete and just before the shooting started to the rushes and now the first copy which came this week. He tells us, “It’s an excellent film. I have seen the film in its different stages including the first copy, before they release it, as they want my opinion about it. Sometimes much earlier also they show me the film – agar kuch daalna hai ya nikalna hai and all that. People respect my experience about filmmaking.”
Talking about Kabir Khan as a filmmaker Salim Khan is all praises for him. “Kabir is a very good director, extremely sensible, open-minded and a very good technician. He doesn’t have to prove anything now. He has made super duper hits like Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan which were different genres and yet highly appreciated. Kabir doesn’t need any certificate from me or anybody else. He has already proved his worth – kitni achchi achhi filmein banayi hai and now Tubelight is another shining example of what a good filmmaker he is.”
Talking about his son Salman and Sohail’s performances in Tubelight, Salim Khan says he has liked them both very much. “Both have put in very good performances – bahut achcha kaam kiya hai dono ne. Whatever was expected from them, they have delivered that very well. You can’t go beyond the role, jo aapka role hai ussi mein aapko rehna hai and in that Salman and Sohail have performed well.”
But in spite of being a proud father, Salim Khan is known to give criticism where it’s due. He says, “Har film ke andar toh koi bahut achcha kaam kar nahi sakte. Jo achcha kaam karta hai uss ka tareef karte hain, par koi picture ke andar uska achcha kaam nahi hota hai, not satisfactory and we must say that. We have to be honest with each other – you have to be honest with your children and they have to be honest with you. At home we are family and don’t have to please each other.”
