Kabir Singh Team Quiet Over Charges Of Misogyny

Toxic masculinity, misogyny, abuse, rape…these are some of the misdemeanours that critics, specially female , have hurled at Shahid Kapoor’s new release Kabir Singh.

And yet this swag-filled remake of the 2017 Telugu cult film Arjun Reddy is well on the way to becoming one of the biggest hits of 2019.

Critics de damned, the film has been loved by the audience. And the Kabir Singh team , basking in the unexpectedly huge success, are in no mood to defend themselves against the allegations .

Apparently the cast and crew have been asked by the producers to “lie low” and offer no defence for the emotional violence of the subject matter and the protagonist’s arrogant disdain for conventions.

Confirming this a source close to the film told me. “It’s true . No one is going to sit down and explain why Kabir Singh is what he is. There is really no explanation. And the more one tries to explain the more difficult it gets to fob off the growing volley of attacks criticism and questioning. So it’s best to just keep quiet.”

I’ve also come to know that the cast and crew are all set for a huge celebratory bash. The film is expected to make huge profits. The happiest is Shahid Kapoor whose career gets a massive boost with this success.

A source close to Kapoor says, “Among his two releases of 2019 ,in Padmaavat Shahid was robbed of all credit. And Batti Gul Meter Chalu was a thundering flop. He has made up for it with Kabir Singh. The batti is finally chalu.”

Also pleased as a punch is Kiara Advani who has gone from flop in Fugly to superhit (and superhot) in Kabir Singh.

The one most disappointed is Arjun Kapoor who was all but finalized to play Kabir Singh, until Kabir Singh’s director Sandeep Vanga made it clear he would direct the remake only with Shahid Kapoor in the lead.

Arjun’s career desperately needs a miracle like Kabir Singh.
