There were no brawls, face-offs or drug busts at Karan Johar’s “decorous” gentleman’s party for a super-celebrity whose popularity largely defines Bollywood’s ersatz energy.
Where else but in Karan Johar’s birthday bash would you find Hrithik Roshan and his former(?) wife Sussanne Khan walking in hand-in-hand with their new love interests? For the first time Sussanne Khan and her boyfriend Arslan Goni , and Hrithik and his new girlfriend Saba Azad were at the same venue.
No fireworks. In fact, star guest tells me that the two couples exchanged pleasantries. How wonderful to see ex-es comfortable in one another’s company.
Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor came solo , as their wives are abroad, one wife Deepika doing jury duty in Cannes, the other Alia is shooting her first Hollywood film. But the other star-couple Katrina Kaif-Vicky Kaushal were seen spreading bonhomie among friends.
“Katrina and Vicky seem happy together,” star guests tells me.
Ranbir, incidentally came with his mother and spent most of the evening with her. Good choice: Neetu Kapoor is an extremely entertaining company. Incidentally, Ranbir is going out of his way to promote his mother’s forthcoming release Jug Jugg Jeeyo. He was heard recommending it to anyone he came across during the KJo party.
Kajol, as predicted came solo. No one expected Ajay Devgan to turn up even if it was Karan’s 50th.So did Kajol’s cousin Rani Mukerjee whose husband Aditya Chopra owns the venue of Karan Johar’s 50th party.
Karan had specially requested Adi to drop in for a few minutes.
The surprise guest of the night was Salman Khan. No one expected him to show up for Karan Johar’s birthday party. But show up , he did, though he avoided Katrina Kaif all evening.
Summing up the tides of enjoyment at Karan’s birthday a star-guest tells me, “It was a routine celebration. All of Karan’s friends were there. Karan became quite emotional when he saw the turn-out.”
