When Kabir Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger was released 5 years ago, times were different. The political situation between India and Pakistan was much less volatile . And the film could get away with Katrina Kaif playing a Pakistani national.
Now with all that has happened at the border, it is going to be tough to take Katrina’s Pakistani agent Zoya past the censor board in India.
According to a source very close to the CBFC there is an unofficial ban on all Indo-Pak romances/ relationships.
Says the informed source, “If you remember what happened with Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil , Anushka Sharma’s character Alizeh was from Pakistan. But after the surgical attacks and the escalated hostilities between the two countries, her nationality was quickly changed and she became an Indian Muslim from Lucknow.”
So does the informed source see Katrina’s Zoya’s nationality being changed?
“It is likely. Guidelines clearly do not allow this kind of a cross-border merger,” says the source.
Wonder what would have happened to Yash Chopra’s Veera Zara if he had made it today.
