Kim Jae Young quit his corporate job to pursue filmmaking in 'My Lovely Journey'

My Lovely Journey follows the journey of Kang Yeo Reum (Gong Seung Yeon), an idol-turned-travel reporter, who takes on proxy travel trips, realizing true success and the meaning of life along the way.

In the K-drama, Kim Jae Young plays aspiring film director Lee Yeon Seok. Lee Yeon Seok is a character who walked the path of an elite, graduating from a prestigious university’s engineering department and landing a job at a major corporation. But he suddenly quit and enrolled in a film school to pursue filmmaking.

Currently in his second year of working on a feature-length screenplay, he finds himself in a terrible slump. To make ends meet, he jumps from one part-time job to another. One day, he is hired to edit footage for travel reporter Kang Yeo Reum (Gong Seung Yeon), and embarks on a new journey.  

The production team stated, “Kim Jae Young perfectly understood the complex charm that defines the character of Lee Yeon Seok and expressed it in his own unique way,” adding, “Though Yeon Seok may appear cold and brusque on the outside, viewers will come to see his true nature — a warm heart and artistic sensitivity — through Kim Jae Young’s nuanced performance.”

My Lovely Journey is coming this August. News about the K-drama’s global OTT is yet to come.
