The BET Awards were on Monday, June 9. The prestigious event, celebrating Black artists, entertainers, and sportspeople, was held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. It featured a lineup of incredible performers and presenters, but another highlight was the fashion that the celebrities donned on the red carpet. And there was one star who stood out for her exceptional style: KJ Smith!
KJ Smith Wows in Flowy Dress at the BET Awards 2025
Smith and her husband, Skyh Black, walked the red carpet together, and they looked stunning. The couple is expecting their first child together, and she is currently in her third trimester of pregnancy. Smith chose a dress that looked comfortable but also highlighted her baby bump. The green color was gorgeous on her, and the flowy design with deliberate cutouts highlighted her pregnant body.

The couple had not yet announced the gender of their baby, but the “Sistas” actress accidentally let slip while being interviewed by People on June 9. After realising she had referred to her unborn child as a “her,” Smith admitted that they had intended to keep the gender a secret and her husband had not been able to tell anyone. “Every time someone asks him, I give him the death stare,” Smith said of her husband. But now that she revealed they were having a girl, she defended herself by saying, “I have mom brain!”
Black is excited to become a father to a little girl. “To know that I’m going to be a girl dad … I’ve bought so many things from 0-6 months that she’s telling me to stop. I’m elated!” he confessed.
KJ Smith Discusses Her Relationship With Skyh Black
Smith and Black married in September 2023, and as they await the arrival of their first child, their relationship continues to strengthen. Smith has discussed her choice of partner before in a May 2025 interview with Essence, telling the outlet he was perfect for her.
“I wrote a list in my journal 10 years ago. I showed him [Black] the list, and he has all the qualities I wanted as a partner. Write the vision and make it plain. I prayed with my plan and vision, and God blessed me,” she said. Black shares her thoughts, adding, “She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
