On November 16, Ralral uploaded a video titled “The Story of Losing My Phone at an American Airport” on her YouTube channel, where she recalled the shocking incident.
Ralral explained that she had recently changed her phone before the trip. She traveled with her baby daughter and initially thought she could save on airfare by having her daughter sit on her lap. But she shared, “My daughter was much bigger than I expected. I had to keep standing while holding her, so I couldn’t sleep for even one minute.”
When she landed at a U.S. airport and waited to transfer to Maui, things took a turn. “The flight was delayed for 7 hours. While waiting, my phone disappeared. Honolulu Airport is huge. I ran around so much that an employee told me to go outside the airport to look for it,” she said.
With the help of an airport worker, Ralral exited through an employee-only gate to search for her phone—but she couldn’t find it anywhere. When she tried to re-enter the airport, panic ensued.
As she ran inside looking for her phone, two police officers suddenly restrained her.
“They grabbed me like they were catching a criminal. Everyone stared at me. I told them I was just looking for my phone, but then six police officers showed up. People were looking at me like I was being arrested for drugs.”
Police questioned her, asking why losing a phone had anything to do with running inside the airport, making the situation even more stressful for her. Ralral was then taken back to the female employee who had originally opened the staff door for her.
“She asked why I was running inside the airport and told me to check for my phone again before letting me go,” Ralral recalled. She ended up detained for two hours before reuniting with her family.
Fortunately, she eventually remembered her phone’s “Find My iPhone” feature. Sending a heartfelt message through the device, she tracked it down.
“I left a long message full of desperation. Then I went back to the female employee and asked, ‘You don’t happen to have my iPhone, right?’ And she handed it to me.”
The incident has since drawn attention online, with many viewers shocked by how far the situation escalated over a missing phone.
