Aaron Pierre has been cast as John Stewart in James Gunn’s upcoming DCU show, Lanterns. His casting comes alongside the assurance that the DCU is doing everything it can to pick the best of the best.
Lanterns creator Chris Mundy spoke to Men’s Health about how (and why) they cast Aaron Pierre in the role of John Stewart and the extreme measures and care they took to make this the perfect casting.
It’s a tricky role because there’s a physicality to believing that someone is a superhero, and then there’s a physicality to the character of John Stewart. He was a Marine sniper, which requires a certain kind of focus and diligence. After the Marines, he becomes an architect, so there’s an artistic side to him.
He continued,
We talked a lot about that how being a Marine is John’s job, but it’s not his entire personality. He’s as much an artist as he is a Marine. There’s a real balance of the physical and the artistic that’s just innately inside of Aaron, and I think it’s essential.
Well, considering the care and caution they took for the casting of Lanterns, DCU fans have faith in the creators and makers of their favorite movies that even the DCU Batman will be the perfect actor for said role.
Lanterns Casting Raises Hope For Batman Fans in the DCU
We have a Superman in the DCU (David Corenswet), but his frenemy Batman has consistently been absent for quite a while. It has been quite a few months since The Brave and the Bold was announced, but we haven’t found DCU’s Batman yet.

Although fans were a bit pessimistic about the casting delay and there were fears that the project would be canceled, it seems that all the fears were in vain.
Considering the fact that Lanterns took such care and measures for the role of John Stewart in the upcoming show, fans are now hopeful that the DCU is a perfectionist machine.
Instead of wanting to meet tight deadlines and potentially ruining the project, it seems that the DCU is taking it leisurely. With the Lanterns casting, it might be the case that whoever they cast as the DCU’s Batman will be an actor truly deserving of the role, and not just a big name.
